RUC is one of the key research universities in China, and a member university of both Project 211 and Project 985, whereby the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China provides special support to 100 and 34 elite universities. In the 2012 national assessment of academic subjects, RUC placed third as a comprehensive university and the leader in social sciences, humanities, and business. As such, RBS is able to offer more than 500 humanities and social science elective courses for IMBA and MBA students both through the business school and the other elite RUC schools such as the School of Economics, Finance, Law, Public Administration and Policy, Environment and Natural Resources, Statistics, Labor and Human Resources, etc. This integrated disciplinary approach will give full advantage to the development of future business elites.

• Experienced Teaching Staff

RBS’ 148 faculty members have both strong academic backgrounds and rich experience in enterprise management. More than 20% of the faculty have obtained their degrees from top universities overseas and form the backbone of the English-language programs. In addition, RBS benefits from its close ties to industry to engage many professionals as visiting lecturers, student mentors and supervisors. They ensure that the MBA programs are relevant to current business needs. The School also welcomes visiting scholars at the forefront of their fields to teach short courses every semester.

• Practical Competence-Oriented Program System

RBS’ IMBA program supports the development of intellectual and managerial skills in students as well as the acquisition of professional knowledge. Teaching methods emphasize student-centered pedagogy including case analysis, company visits and simulation exercises. Participation in case competitions is encouraged. The Practitioner Mentor Program matches students with a management professional to expose them to the business world, help guide them in career decisions and develop internship opportunities. The Team Action Project gives students the opportunity to participate in a real-world consultancy project.

• Various International Exchange Programs

RBS has many established long-term cooperative relationships with overseas business schools including the Yale Master of Advanced Management program, a double-degree program with SUNY-Buffalo, and short-term exchange programs and study tours around the world.

In April 2012, RBS joined the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), founded and hosted by the Yale School of Management. The Yale School of Management reserves spaces for IMBA and MBA students from GNAM schools in their MAM (Master of Advanced Management). MAM aims to cultivate global business leaders with the ability to deal with complex situations. In addition, GNAM holds two Global Development Weeks each year. IMBA and MBA students apply to attend a week of intensive integrated classroom and corporate visits at participating schools including RBS, Yale, IE University, Monterrey Institute of Technology, University College Dublin, Israel Institute of Technology and Fudan University.
IMBA students may also apply to spend their second year at SUNY-Buffalo. Successful graduates earn degrees from both Renmin University and SUNY-Buffalo.

RBS has student exchange agreements with over fifty universities around the world. IMBA and MBA students can spend a semester abroad to experience enterprise operations in different cultures and develop competences in innovation, international management and cross-culture coordination.

• Colorful Student Activities

IMBA students of RBS also have opportunities to broaden their vision and improve their comprehensive skills through participating in student activities. These include the Business Mentor program, international study tours, enterprise visits, case and research paper competitions, MBA workshops, salons, alumni exchanges, and lectures. RBS also has a wide range of student societies including volunteer opportunities mainly in the areas of environmental protection, assistance to the disabled, teaching to migrant children or in rural areas, support for overseas students, and care for senior citizens. The “Buddy Program” pairs international students with local students to help adjust to life in Beijing and give students opportunities for cultural exchange. There are also many cultural clubs including popular and traditional Chinese music and opera, dance, calligraphy, sports, as well as events organized by the RBS Multicultural Association. RBS has been hosting the “Sing with the Wind” original music contest since 1991.

• Well-developed MBA Career Development Service

The School’s Career Development Center (CDC) offers extensive career-related support to students and alumni, which serves as a bridge between the business community and students. In 2008, the Center launched the Career Leader System based on the same model used at the Harvard Business School, to conduct comprehensive assessments of the employment competencies of students. The CDC offers orientation sessions to senior students seeking jobs, and to junior and senior students seeking internship opportunities in businesses.

• Rich Alumnus Resources

RBS has more than 30,000 graduates from all walks of life who provide valuable alumni resources to the School. The Alumni Affairs Office and the MBA Alumni Association (MBAAA) ensure strong engagement of alumni with the School and with each other. The MBAAA carries out activities such as building an online MBA BBS communication platform, inviting entrepreneurs and professors to give seminars to alumni, expanding placement channels for MBA graduates, inviting successful alumni to be MBA Business Mentors, and organizing capacity development programs for new MBA students.

Instruction

The International MBA (IMBA) program boasts award-winning faculty with expertise in Chinese and international business practices. Consistent with the school’s mission of “China root” and “global reach,” the IMBA program offers students with the opportunity to learn and understand Chinese (“C”) and international (“I”) business practices. Students enrolled in the program have the option of completing the “C+I” Track.

Globally, RBS has established over 60 exchange partnerships with leading business schools, which allows students to study overseas for one semester free of tuition fees. There are also dual degree programs available with partners such as the Yale School of Management (SOM), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo).

Along with Yale SOM, RBS is a co-founder and a hub of the prestigious Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), aiming to provide a platform for management education in an increasingly complex globalized world. Over twenty top business schools from both developed and developing countries are currently members of GNAM. With this platform, IMBA students at RBS are able to study across member schools, access popular on-line courses, participate in international academic events, experience overseas study tours, and attend company visits abroad.

Academics

The International MBA program is 2-years full-time but all core courses are finished within the first year. It is also possible for students to complete all the required credits needed for graduation within the first year. However, they can choose to take electives in the second year depending on their own schedules.

Most IMBA students will finish all course work in the first year so that they can embark on global opportunities in their second year while finding an internship and completing their thesis.

Program Requirements

IMBA students are required to complete a total of 47 credits as well as a graduation thesis. Specialized electives in English or Chinese are offered by the MBA program. English or Chinese electives are also available for credit from other programs at RBS and from other Schools at RUC (e.g. the School of Finance, the School of Law, the International Summer School program, etc.). International students may also take Chinese language classes as needed.

An RBS IMBA Advisory Committee was specifically established to restructure, review and revise each year's curriculum to ensure the quality of our courses.

Educational Opportunities

• C+I Track
  The IMBA program offers students a specialization in Chinese (“C”) and international (“I”) business practices. Students enrolled in the program who complete the “C+I” track through a focused selection of electives can receive certification testifying their expertise in this area. All students would be required to complete at least 4 courses and 8 credits.

• C + I track electives include (subject to change):

​International Management, Cross-Cultural Management, ITAP, Strategic Marketing, Financial Markets and Institutions in China, Organizational Theory, *Non-IMBA electives (maximum of 2) with permission from the Chairman of IMBA Advisory Committee, International Business, Investments, International Corporate Finance, International Study Tour, Strategic Compensation, Leadership, Global Network Courses.

• Optional Courses

Students may also choose from over 500 courses offered by other Schools at Renmin University. A limited number of courses are available in English from, for example, the School of Law, the School of Finance, the School of Economics, and the School of International Relations. Business-related courses can count towards elective credit with approval from the IMBA Director.

• Dual Degrees
  Students may apply for dual degree programs with Yale, NUS and SUNY Buffalo. Successful candidates will study for two master's degree at the same time and gain invaluable insight into both western and eastern management approaches.
• MBA Business Mentor Program
  The MBA Business Mentor Program (MBM) matches students with senior managers to help students develop their networks and expose them to frontline business practices.
• Team Action Project
  The Team Action Project (TAP) is a distinctive managerial consulting program where students combine knowledge with practice applied to real-world projects.

  The School will help to match students with internship opportunities compatible with their future career goals.

Global Network for Advanced Management

Along with Yale SOM, RBS is a co-founder and hub of exclusive Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), which aims to provide a platform for management education in an increasingly complex globalized world. Over twenty distinguished business schools from both developed and developing counties are currently members of GNAM, including IE, HEC Paris, IMD, LSE, UCD, Technion, NUS, etc. Through GNAM, IMBA students are able to access:

• On-line Courses
  Each semester, two or more courses from member schools are offered on-line. Examples of courses include Natural Capital: Risks & Opportunities in Global Resource Systems, New Product Development and Analysis of Competition Law & Enforcement across Countries.


• Global Network Weeks
  Two sessions of global network weeks are respectively held in March and October each year. Students attend a week of lectures from professors and business leaders, company visits and networking events at one of the participating schools.


• Master of Advanced Management
  5 spaces are reserved for RBS MBA graduates at Yale's prestigious one-year Master of Advanced Management Program. The program brings together a cohort of exceptional students from GNAM schools who want to deepen their understanding of the most complex management issues facing leaders worldwide.

Scholarship Information

Full-time students are eligible for a variety of merit-based scholarships. Students are also eligible for subsides for overseas exchanges, dual degree programs or study tours.

Diploma Awarded

The IMBA program is a two-year full time study. Students who meet the graduation requirements will be awarded with the MBA degree by RUC.

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is a global, nonprofit membership organization of educational institutions, businesses, and other entities devoted to the advancement of management education. Established in 1916, AACSB International provides its members with a variety of products and services to assist them with the continuous improvement of their business programs and schools.

EQUIS
The school’s MBA/EMBA programs are accredited by the the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

The European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) is a school accreditation system. It specializes in higher education institutions of management and business administration, run by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). EQUIS was created in 1998 under Gordon Shenton and the current director is Julio Urgel. In the past twelve years of existence the organization has accredited 138 institutions in 38 countries.

Regulations

As a student in the IMBA program, you are required to adhere to all our regulations and to familiarize yourself with the rules. We expect our students to behave accordingly and responsibly. Below are a few major regulations of our program.

• Attendance Policies

Every student at RUC is required to register with the university at the beginning of each academic semester. Students can use their campus card to register by themselves at a Campus Card Terminals located throughout campus from the second semester onwards.

Students are expected to attend all lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions that they have registered for. Class work must be completed adequately and all examinations must be taken. Students who cannot meet the requirements for attendance or class assignments (missing above 1/3) will not be allowed to take the final exam.

If a student cannot attend classes or cannot complete the given work because of an illness, accident, or life-threatening emergency he/she should submit an official document (such as a doctor’s note) explaining the situation and ask for an approval from the teacher and the IMBA office.

• Academic Misconduct

​The University and the School of Business take plagiarism and cheating extremely serious and investigate all alleged offences of misconduct in assessed work and examinations. Students suspected of such misconduct are dealt with accordingly through the University’s Student Discipline Procedures.

Plagiarism is a very serious offence in academic works. It is generally accepted that plagiarism occurs when there is no proper acknowledgement given towards the writings or ideas of someone else. Therefore, students must ensure that they acknowledge others’ contributions in the form of citations, quotations, or references.
Forms of Academic Misconduct during Examinations Includes:
- The act of bringing unauthorized materials (written, printed, or in any other format) into the examination room;
- Communicating with, receiving assistance from, copying from or providing assistance to another candidate during an examination;
- Removing examination papers or worksheets from the examination room

The occurrence of one of the following situations may lead to dismissal from the university:
1) Failure in three core courses (once you have failed in two core courses, you will be on academic probation);
2) Unexcused absences from arranged school activities for two continuous weeks;
3) Violations, such as academic misconduct, stirring up quarrels and causing troubles, engaging in fights, scolding, abusing, or slandering others or infringing upon the privacy of others, and causing harmful impact, will lead to disciplinary sanctions including dismissal depending on the seriousness of the violation.

• Grading System & Criteria

     ​The Grading Criteria of the IMBA program is as follows:

1. Receiving a grade of “F” or Fail in a core course will require the student to make up the course in the following academic year when that course is offered again.

2. Receiving a grade of “F” or Fail in an elective will require the student to either retake the elective in the following year or to make up the credits with another elective course.
